Pendulum Regulated Clock Escapement
Before quartz crystals, clock speed was mechanically regulated through a pendulum-controlled escapement (like in a grandfather's clock). Pendulum length and weight placement determined the speed - longer meant slower, shorter meant faster. This one runs one minute per full circle. Perhaps you can adapt it for switch controls, timing explosions, etc. Also, see designs by Jayone and Nworb...

- Nov 11, 2012 Erle: @MetroWolf: Such are the vagaries of mechanical movements. "Your results may vary..."
- Nov 11, 2012 Erle: @albintj: Thanks - still working on a full clock...
- Nov 11, 2012 Erle: @Nighthawk: Thanks - I like your stuff, too.
- Nov 04, 2012 MetroWolf: 57 seconds awesome!
- Aug 06, 2012 albintj: its 10 /10 man really amazing
- May 20, 2012 Nighthawk: Excellent! 5
- Feb 11, 2012 Erle: @kittylitter: You rock!
- Feb 11, 2012 kittylitter: @Homedawgian: Okay... I made your holy grail. :-)
- Feb 10, 2012 hellsbells: Beautiful precision excellent
- Feb 10, 2012 rirwin810: Nicely done sir
- Feb 10, 2012 kittylitter: @Homedawgian: Thank you. I've been beating my head against the wall trying to think of a new project.
- Feb 10, 2012 Erle: @olix@#$%&*-+(): For some reason, anything I try to do to it now causes it to blow up. Don't know why, and I've run into this problem before. I am working on a Samsung Charge phone. Anyone have any suggestions? (And, thanks to all for your comments... I really appreciate them...)
- Feb 10, 2012 Erle: @Cheddah: Go for it! And my work is really just a refinement of Jayone's and Nworb's, and all three just reflect an actual working object. What you or others add will be great!
- Feb 10, 2012 olix@#$%&*-+(): Make bigger one with more numbers! 5*
- Feb 10, 2012 Cheddah: @Erle: ill make the engagement gear if u want me to try but I don't wanna take credit for ur work so the rest would be up to u.
- Feb 10, 2012 Homedawgian: Oh and I 5ed ya :-)
- Feb 10, 2012 Homedawgian: @Erle: Nice :-) haha dont to enthused about being reminded about me. To be honest, I am quite envious of your clock mechinisms. Ive always thought that making a fully functional clock on this game would be the holly grail of all aparatuses and Id love to see it be done.
- Feb 10, 2012 Erle: @Cheddah: sounds like a good idea - go for it! My biggest priblem was getting the "fingers" on the esacpement wheel placed where it wouldn't skip. Then it is a matter of adjusting the placement of the weight...
- Feb 10, 2012 Cheddah: @alfajim: you would have to find a way to disengage the gear or it wouldn't turn backwards. I know how that's possible tho.
- Feb 09, 2012 alfajim: @Erle: If you do the weight you could put a red wheel on, like a handle, so you can wind it up again. Although then you'd have to be able to stop the pendulum.
- Feb 09, 2012 Erle: @Auror: or wind the main spring (if not a "tall clock" that stood on the floor...)
- Feb 09, 2012 Erle: @Cheddah: That is my goal - just haven't gotten there yet. Thanks for the reminder about homedawgian...
- Feb 09, 2012 Cheddah: @Auror: exactly.
- Feb 09, 2012 Auror: @Cheddah: just like my parents old clock. Have to pull the weight up every few days.
- Feb 09, 2012 Cheddah: Nice man very nice. You could make this thing battery free if u use homedawgians rotary string drive and place a wheel next to it thats coiled up with a chain and weight. Just an idea.
- Feb 09, 2012 gannand: Very good
- Feb 09, 2012 nl4l1f3: This is awsome! 5 6stars
- Feb 09, 2012 Erle: @alfajim: Thanks - now to build the minute and hour hand mechanisms!
- Feb 09, 2012 Erle: @letskeepitsimple: the battery is sitting in the 12, and powers the escapement wheel. The pendulum controls how fast/far the escapement can turn.
- Feb 09, 2012 alfajim: Awesome, I love that mechanism.
- Feb 09, 2012 letskeepitsimple: Sweet. Do u have batteries powering the pendulum or is is rocking back and forth on its own
- Feb 09, 2012 racer-KOREA: Good idea!
- Feb 09, 2012 Erle: @mrsimb: Thanks - and your frog is absolutely amazing! Ignore the detractors...
- Feb 09, 2012 mrsimb: Its awesome! Really. I see its runs both with my clocks.
- Feb 09, 2012 mrsimb: Cool mechanism
